Water Quality
What is the hardness of my water?
The
Water Hardness is 312 milligrams per liter, or 18.6 grains
per gallon, and the Iron Content is less than <.004 milligrams
per liter.
Why is my water cloudy?
If
your water appears cloudy, or milky, it is usually an indication
of air in the water system. The
cloudiness is just tiny air bubbles - much like the gas bubbles in
carbonated beverages. Within seconds the bubbles will rise to the top
and disappear. You may notice it more in the winter when water
temperatures are colder but it does not indicate any problems with your
water.
Why does the District add fluoride to the water?
The
District has been adding fluoride to the water since February 1, 1975
as set forth by the Kentucky Cabinet for Human Resources. "All
community water systems serving a population of 3,000 or more shall
adjust fluoride deficient waters to protect the dental health of the
people served by the supply." (KRS 211.190, KAR 902 115.010)
Is bottled water better than tap water?
There
is no evidence that proves that bottled water is better than tap water.
Tap water is required to meet strict standards set up by the USEPA
under the Safe Drinking Water Act. Tap water is regularly tested for
compliance with state and federal regulations, whereas bottled water
suppliers do not have such stringent regulatory requirements.

Why is my water bill so high?
Possible causes of a higher than normal water bill include:
The season:
Water bills are usually higher in the summertime due to filling
swimming pools or using water consuming toys, landscaping, or
gardening. They can also be higher in the wintertime if you leave
the faucet dripping when temperatures are below freezing to keep your
pipes from freezing and busting.
Underground Leak:
Leaks outside the home may not always surface which means it could go
unnoticed for a long period of time. Check for areas of unusually lush
grass, unexpected vegetation, or soft spots in the yard.
A misread meter:
Check your meter to see if the reading is within reason with the
reading on your bill. If your meter reading is lower than the
reading on your bill, it could have been read or entered incorrectly.
A leaking toilet: To
check your toilet for a leak, put a few drops of food coloring in the
tank and see if it seeps into the bowl. If it does, you may need to
replace the flapper or rubber gasket at the bottom of the tank.
A leaking faucet:
Make sure all the faucets in and around your home are and are able
to be turned off completely. Even a slow drip can use as much as 5,000
gallons of water per month.
How can I lower my bill?
Does the District give adjustments on leaks?
The
Trimble County Water District currently does not give adjustments on
leaks. However, we do offer payment arrangements if the large bill
creates a hardship. Just contact the office and let us know what you
can pay on it each month, in addition to your regular monthly bill. On
the other hand, if you are a sewer customer, and you can verify that
you had a leak that did not go into the Sewer System, the City of
Bedford can do an adjustment on your sewer bill. Contact the City of
Bedford at 255-3684 for more information.
What do I need to do to start a water service?
You must come into the office and pay a security deposit, $45 Connect
fee, and also fill out the neccessary paper work. We also need to make
a copy of the person's Picture ID, and if renting we need a copy of the
lease or confirmation from the Landlord that you are living there. Also
if you are trying to get service inside city limits, you must go see
the City Of Bedford and pay all fees and dues for Sewer. The number to
contact for the City of Bedford is 502-255-3684.
How long will it take to recieve my deposit after I disconnect my service?
After a service is disconnected the final bill will not be mailed until
the normal billing cycle for the account. Usually after the final bill
is mailed the deposit refund will be mailed to the customer's
forwarding address.
